Gather in the Park: What It Is About

Monthly we meet in a park here in Los Angeles. Sometimes we're a large gathering, sometimes we're a modest handful of magick makers, but we're here in these natural spaces to leave a little magick in the form of creativity.

GATHER (#Gather, #GatherTempleLA) days are simple rituals designed to bring us, the magick makers, into harmony with our environments. Nature, weather, people, plants, and circles we design out of the inspiration of the Spirit of our circle.

Since November Temple LA has come together with students and folks in the community to create friendly, community get togethers in parks around Southern California. Our circles have been largely round spaces made of fallen things which we "gather" and assemble to work within.

I want to stir the cauldron of that creativity and invite you to open up the heart, craft from what inspires, and help us to build something beautiful and transient. A space to be seen and enjoyed by others. A magick that will blow away in the wind or rain, or dissolve into the earth.

Recently co-creator Stephanie Syd Yang,, posted a link in social media. Originally posted on we were awed by Scottish Sculpter, Andy Goldsworthy.

When I make something, in a field or street, it may vanish but it’s part of the history of those places,” he says in an interview. “In the early days my work was about collapse and decay. Now some of the changes that occur are too beautiful to be described as simply decay. At Folkestone I got up early one morning ahead of an incoming tide and covered a boulder in poppy petals. It was calm and the sea slowly and gently washed away the petals, stripping the boulder and creating splashes of red in the sea. The harbor from which many troops left for war was in the background.

Our next Gather in the park is April 24th, in Glendale CA at the Mayor's Bicentennial park. It's a well kept public space with a variety of trees that drop big leaves, color, and twisting branches amid small rolling hills and curving pedestrian paths.

Our mediation will be on the current time and tide of life and light here in LA, but I want to encourage an exploration of color and texture as we build this circle... or star, square, oval, or crooked path of color and texture this go around.

How we do

We meet. We greet. We breath and align ourselves between earth and sky. From this meditative space we will talk about what we receive. Including consideration for all points, we will split and gather the pieces for our creative afternoon.

Careful not to pull up rocks or logs, considering only what has fallen, I'm inspired to leave a  space of liminal beauty, with what we find.

Once our space is complete I will draw us into a space of mystery to evoke the Spirit of what we have created. Nature inspired. Spirit of Place. Genius Loci will be left to conjure wonder in whomever stumbles upon our working.

I invite co-creators to put hands and heart to these spaces of fallen things. I look forward to other group leaders in the Temple LA, as we go forward, and the spaces they will create.

All events are posted here at, and more details including email announcements can be found via Meetup.

The Spirit of the Land, the two who move as one, and the park itself. These are magickal spaces and gatherings and open to ALL collaborative magick makers, meditators, space holders, healers, and the like who are in accord with the healing work.

You need heart and attention. A practice of meditation, ritual, and energy work is helpful but i'm experienced, as are some others in our group, with ritual and helping to guide and direct. Temple Los Angeles is expanding but we work with Buddhists, Catholics, Pagans, WItches, Healers, Metaphysicians, green and long in the tooth.

Please feel welcome to the work.
