Why do I practice and train in magick? Why do I choose the worlds of nature, the mystical, and explore the unseen? What is in my own light that is found in the light of all things? Connection.
Our private bookstudy group, which is truly become a magickal spiral of beautiful hearts, powerful bodies, and inspired minds continues to grow. This month we contemplate the Sacred Journey which is both inward and outward. Into our nature and mystery, out into nature and her mysteries.
As a self-identified Witch, repeatedly coined Shaman, as a teacher of and student of some of the Nature and Mystery Traditions, sacred cosmology is everything. What we learn early on shapes our connection to the natural and magickal worlds as well as our experience within them. It's important to learn and build upon our reality maps, not just as lines on a paper, but as intimate places of connection to the spirits of place within and about us.
In the Inner Temple of Witchcraft book-study, where our group is communally focusing on this month we are exploring the paths of the Witch. The layers of the body-energetic, the layers of reality and some small correlation to the world we can expand upon later. And we are building into our "inner temples," starting with the Witches or "world tree," notable in many modern and ancient shamanic experiences.
Why the tree? It is a central axis between the three worlds. It stands between the Vault of Heaven and Earth, like us humans linking the magick above, below and between us. As a ladder to experience when explored from the magickal consciousness it becomes a avenue between worlds, a home for the souls of our experience, and an inner gathering point for all our spirit relationships. Through the Tree as a sacred center we can fly into the starry paths, or descend into the rich, nutrient underworld of our personal and collective beings.
The Witch is the seeker, the Walker between Worlds, and I believe it is essential for study on the magickal and mystical paths to have a map.
To navigate the depths of the mystical and the fantastic, to find and create friendships with spirit and relationships with the natural world, we need some tools to navigate the experience. This is one of the fundamental points of my world and work, creating stable spaces where ecstatic and divine, contemplative and realized experiences can form and transform us. This is one of my fundamental story arcs in teaching and why we study, practice, and become adept at such things as blessing, protection, meditation, energy work, subtle anatomy, spirit sight, journey work, and Witchcraft as a Spiritual Practice.
It's not just about magickal power, it's about wise and loving use of that power in the vein of our relationships to nature and spirit, connecting us to the heart of this life and the Great Work.
Without a map, made or given, there is the potential to become lost in the experience of the invisible. We lack references, insight, tools and mechanics to help us with our encounters with the invisible, how to understand and integrate them in a healthy and constructive way for our personal growth.
The other boon of magickal training is in learning, crafting, earning/creating out magickal tools. Claiming the title that suits our choices and calling.
I also choose the words Witch and Witchcraft for what I do. I claim the words, the power, and the mystique because beneath the demonization of the word is a history of religious and cultural oppression on native peoples everywhere. Everyone deeped "Pagan" and labeled "witch" who have been, are, and will be persecuted by dementors who want to control the spiritual experience for profit, control, and middle world power. It is a POWERFUL word, Witch, not just because I claim the light of what it means to [be] a natural-magickal being, but because it invokes the Sacredness of the Otherness in culture, embraces queerness, and puts a hand in the crack of the societal door that would close upon the face of any other experience besides the popular and proscribed.
It's a little heretical, but it's also loving. It's powerful because it's conscious, choosing to learn to navigate the energy and life. It's Wise because it opens up to the craft of inspiration, the muses and potential for awakening.
We're attempting to form another Inner Temple group this June. Depending on when we can put that together will help us navigate when we begin. I'm hoping for June 9th. If you are interested there are several ways to sign up including this website, the MeetUp page, and Facebook.
Join me, join us at a local Gather. Online via chat or post. Join us for a year and a day study, circles, coffee and cake, laughs, and heart circles of community support as we grow and expand here in LA.
